You Should Not Miss When Traveling to Spain or if you are Visiting a Spanish Restaurant

Spain is a wonderful country to be in. Whether you visit Barcelona or Madrid or coastal parts of Málaga or Tenerife. Wherever you go you will find Spanish food full of flavor and character.

From tasty tapas to delicious seafood and traditional roasts, food in Spain is completely about making the most of the best local produce. This blog presents some of the foods that you must try while in Spain. Else, your visit to this beautiful country will be a bit incomplete.

Paella

In the region of Valencia, it is claimed that you can eat a different rice dish every single day of the year, but let us talk about the most traditional version for now. Ingredients for Paella Valenciana include chicken or rabbit, saffron, runner, and butter beans. But the all-essential element is the rice, ideally the bomba or Calasparra varieties produced on Spain’s east coast, which are specifically, good for absorbing all the flavors.

Gazpacho

The ripest and reddest tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, peppers, bread, and cucumber are all blended until silky smooth, then chilled and poured into bowls or glasses. So scrumptious, so refreshing. In the Andalucía region in southern Spain, people have it daily in summer and there is always a jug available on the counter in tapas bars. Also go for salmorejo from Córdoba, a thicker variant that is usually, served with pieces of Ibérico ham on the top.

Turrón

Spanish people devour massive amounts of turrón, or almond nougat, during Christmas, although it is available all around the year. The majority of it is prepared in the small town of Jijona in the province of Alicante, through locally-grown almonds blended with honey and egg white. There are two basic forms – a soft, smooth version, named Jijona, and hard Alicante turrón, which has pieces of almond.

Gambas al ajillo

You enter into a tapas bar, the barman is serving a customer an earthenware dish of sizzling prawns, the enticing aroma hits your nostrils and you simply have to order some too. To recreate this while at home, simply fry some sliced garlic and green chili in olive oil, put in the prawns for a couple of minutes, and add a few parsleys. Couldn’t be easier, couldn’t be tastier.

Tortilla Española

Eggs, potatoes, onions, this is all and certain purists even consider that adding onion is a gastronomic crime of the highest rank. The Spanish omelet is a lot more than the sum of its parts. The potatoes and onions are slowly fried in olive oil and then added with the beaten eggs for the flavors to mix prior to cooking. Add chorizo, ham, courgettes, spinach, or whatever you have to hand to make it a tasty meal out of next to nothing.

These are just some of the Spanish dishes to savor. But there are many more. So, when you visit Spain and explore the country do try the delicious Spanish cuisine.
