The word cabrón (a form of English abusive word), is quite popular among Spanish learners because it is harshly used to describe a friend with a particular abusive word in a lighter vein.

Though, in multiple Spanish-speaking countries, it’s completely normal to refer to this word when referencing your buddy.

The short form cabro (goat) is majorly used in Chile and Costa Rica.

camarada

The word camarada (comrade), can be used literally in every Spanish-speaking country to refer to your friends and pals, in an informal manner.

As per definition, a colega is a classmate or colleague, but it is informally used to refer to your buddy.

Vamos a tomarnos una copas con mi colega, Paco. (Let’s go have some drinks with my buddy, Paco).

Compinche

The word compinche translates and is said informally, to refer to your buddies or pals.

¿Qué pasó, compinche? (What’s up, buddy?)

íntimo

The word íntimo is an adjective which means intimate or close. Íntimo usually, appears in the collocation amigo íntimo close friend.

This collocation is mostly reduced to simply an adjective, which is used to refer to your closest friends.

Alejandro es mi íntimo, mi hermano. (Alejandro is my close friend, my brother).

tío

Tío generally, translates to (uncle) in Spanish, but if you visit Spain, you’ll usually hear this word when people are referring to their friends. It can also be said to refer to a guy normally, just as in Mexico’s güey.

Mi tío no sabe de lo que habla. (My mate does not know what he is talking about).
